Top Picks for 20th Annual Tin Pan South Festival

This week Nashville once again does what it is known best for, showcasing great music. Top singers and songwriters will be showcasing their talents around the Music City for the 20th Annual Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival. This year’s festival headliners include Dierks Bentley and Luke Bryan. The festival is put on by Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) and is dubbed “the world’s largest all-songwriter’s festival.” Some of the songwriters’ names may seem unfamiliar to you, but I guarantee the chart-topping/award-winning songs they have written are not. Natalie Hemby who has written with Miranda Lambert and Josh Kear who has written with American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood, will be performing.

The festival takes place over five days (Tuesday, March 27-Saturday, March 31) at ten different venues and features over one hundred artists and bands.  One of the elements that I truly love about this festival is the entry fees are very affordable and you get 3-5 artists a night for one low price. Great music at a great price, you can’t beat that! Each show this week has a catchy themed title, but the true theme is intimate music in intimate settings. My favorite shows are when you are close to the artists and can feel every emotion, it truly enhances the experience. You can expect some of the artists to play your favorite songs they helped co-write, but also perform their own music as well. You may end up finding a new favorite artist. This will be my first year attending this celebration, I am very excited to find some hidden talent and mainly just hear some good live music. I have picked out my favorite venues that I will be attending and that you should too.

Blue Bird Cafe
There isn’t a better venue than the historic Blue Bird Cafe to be a host for songwriters. It was on this stage that Kathy Mattea and Garth Brooks got their start.Tickets for these shows range from $10 to $15. I recommend going to see Adam Hood on Thursday at 6:00pm. His 2004 album, 6th Street, is one of my favorites. Listen to “Million Miles Away” and I guarantee you will fall in love with his soulful voice. This venue is offering free parking and as one of the main venues, reservations are strongly suggested.
Artists At This Venue Inlcude: Adam Hood, JT Harding, Clair Lynch, Troy Jones, and Wayland Hoyfield

Hard Rock Cafe
Hard Rock is the main venue for this year’s festival. Luke Bryan and Dierks Bentley will both be taking the stage here. Because it is the main venue and features larger acts, tickets are $20 per show. All shows are 18 years or older. There is free street parking, but it is very limited and if you don’t want to deal with the hassle of fighting for a space, there is $10 valet parking.
Artists At This Venue Include: Josh Turner, Jim Beavers, Sam Bush, Eric Paslay, Rivers Rutherford, Jeff Black, and James Otto

Listening Room
The Listening Room is easily one of my favorite music venues in Nashville. Tickets for this venue are $10 per show. All ages are welcome. Artists At This Venue Include: Peter Yarrow, Larry Weiss, Marcus Hummon, Marv Green, Billy Mann,

Loews Vanderbilt Hotel
In conjunction with the hotel’s signature bi-weekly music event, Live from Loews, Tin Pan South will be featuring two shows a night in the the “Eat” restaurant. The first show begins at 6:00pm and the second late night show at 9:00pm. Tickets for the early shows at Loews are $8 and $10 for the late
shows. This venue is offering free valet and self parking to all event goers. Come eat, drink, enjoy good music!
Artists At This Venue Include: Kelly Archer, Phil Barton, Emily Shackelton, Sherrie Austin,  Lindsay Ell, and Rob Hatch w/ guest Elliott Lurie

If you plan on attending a show or two (which you should), note that fast access passes for the week have sold out, but you can purchase individual tickets at each venue. As it is with Nashville shows, you can expect some well-known faces in the crowds and unexpected cameos on stage. I look forward to seeing you loving music and being social
around town!
