Summer Social Media Hours
For most parts of the country, except the one I’m in, spring has arrived. Many companies and agencies will begin summer hours on Memorial Day. That pleasant time of having Fridays off or getting out of work early to actually enjoy warm weather ends on Labor Day. Social media managers, you should adjust your posting schedule during the summer. People have more free time and will likely be on social media more. Posting more pics, seeing what their friends are doing, and looking for cool things to do. This means you have more opportunities to get your message in front of your audience and possibly increase engagement.
Social media managers and marketing teams should work together and create social media summer hours for your brand. Before breakfast, during lunch, and right after work are not going to be the peak engagement hours during the summer. Social Times recently published an infographic that said Friday was the worst day to post to LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Facebook. This will likely not hold true during the summer. Your brand should track metrics and run an analysis to see when summer peak times are. This will help in crafting a better schedule for next summer.
Here are a few other tips for your social media during the summer.
- Integrate unique summer themes that are relevant to your brand in your content. People are going to be overwhelmed with barbecues, vacations, and other general themes. There are more fun activities than the aforementioned. Think outside the sandbox and you’ll figure them out.
- Hold a contest or do a “surprise and delight” to loyal consumers and fans. Giveaway summer swag that people need and therefore will use and give your brand more visibility.
- Incorporate content from summer blockbusters that hit theatres. Whatever is big, find a way to join that conversation in a relevant and timely manner. Stay up to date with summer pop culture and you’ll stay up-to-date with your customer.
